Enemies Unite

Today I met with a wonderful couple David and Margalit Friedman, who are Jewish believers in Jesus. They shared with my pastor and I about an incredible emerging ministry that is bringing about reconciliation among Messianic Jews and Arab believers. He shared many amazing stories of the things being done by this ministry (Cornerstone Ministries) and those people associated with with them but one story he shared I will never forget.

David shared with us about the founder of this ministry Mocktar Essid a former Muslim and former member of the PLO. Following his decision to follow Jesus, Mocktar began to speak on behalf of the Jewish people, the Jewish State and the Jewish right to the Promised Land. As time went on more and more Arab Believers began to unite with Messianic Jews in this ministry that focuses on discussing the issues that have divided these two groups of People. As this man's ministry grew, people began to notice and become more and more interested in what he was saying and doing. One such group was Israeli equivalent to the CIA. This group requested to meet with Mocktar and questioned him about his life. Mocktar shared a simple message that God loves all people, that God is reconciling each of us back to himself through Jesus and those that follow Jesus find unity with one another, even Arabs with Jews. Following this incredible meeting with the Israeli CIA he was invited to speak in front of the Israeli Parliament where he shared his belief in the God of Abraham, the Law of Abraham (Torah) the Messiah of Israel and because of this, his support of the Nation and of Israel. He went on to share that his understanding of Israel and his love for his sworn enemies was a result of his Faith in Jesus. Members of Parliament wept as they listed to this man who was a one time sworn enemy share how he cares for, advocates on behalf of, and partners with Jews throughout Europe and Middle East.

Since his meeting with the Israeli Parliament Mocktar has been asked to speak in front of the UN and in other political arenas. What I find powerful about this story is that even the darkest and most hate filled ideology can be changed in a moment or a life time by our friend and Lord, Jesus.
